Verdia was born near Gaffney, South Carolina where she lived until her parents moved the family to the area of Patterson Springs, North Carolina. She later moved to Washington, D.C. where she met and married Nathan Lewis. Nathan was born in Bronson, Florida and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. Verdia and Nathan lived most of their years in Washington, D.C. however. Nathan often took his family to Jacksonville where they shared many enjoyable vacations. They are the parents of one daughter, Inez Pearson. The gardian parents of a grandson, James Pearson, whom they raised from the age of seven weeks until he reached the age of maturity. Also the gardian parents of a great granddaughter, Stephanie Pearson whom they raised from the age of 2 1/2 years until she reached the age of maturity. Truly they have been a strong link in the family. During her earlier years Verdia enjoyed sewing, hat making and she is known for her beautiful flower gardens and her skill at arranging flowers. Verdia and Nathan worked together and were blessed to have all the material things they needed to live a comfortable life. During their earlier years, they were members of a large well known Church where they were active in many capacities of that Church. Nevertheless, they still felt something was lacking in their lives. They felt the need for greater spiritual fulfillment. “Now faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”

The following is Verdia’s testimony of how that need was fulfilled in her life. Truly she had a born again experience with God and a life of fellowship with Christ and the Holy Spirit.

“I heard the WORD of God preached in its fullness under the anointing of the Holy spirit. That word stirred my very soul to thinking–where will I spend eternity – “For there is a way that seemeth right but the end there of is death.” Proverbs 14:12 Man’s way is one of good works, customs, traditions and do the best you can; but, the WORD of God says that “Ye must be born again” St. John 3:16. “Not by works lest any man should boost for by Grace are ye saved through Faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8. God gave His only begotten Son to die on the cross for the remission of our sins. Jesus paid the sin debt by the shedding of his blood. Now we have a free will and must choose to accept HIM and be saved, or reject HIM and be lost.”

“I am so glad I accepted Christ and received HIS salvation. Because of the Spirit of Christ within me, my joy has been full; and I can sing with the Spirit and with the understanding – This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.”
